Route description
It passes through the states of South Carolina and Georgia. It goes through the cities of Columbia, South Carolina and Sumter, South Carolina. Beginning in Sumter, the route is overlapped by U.S. Route 76 for approximately 40 miles (64 km) until they diverge in Columbia. Shortly before diverging, U.S. Route 378 is overlapped by U.S. Route 1 in Columbia until crossing over the Congaree River into West Columbia, SC and diverging. The two routes briefly overlap again in Lexington, SC before diverging again. U.S. Route 378 provides an important link between Columbia and the cities of Sumter, Lexington, and Saluda.
